W03 – The Climber Project

Exploring the Influences That Shape Us

The Climber Project is a collaborative visual arts workshop that invites students to explore the influences that shape human behavior, beliefs, decisions, and personal identity.

Working in teams, students identify the values, experiences, and perspectives they believe influence an individual's journey through life. Through discussion, creativity, and collaboration, students create a visual representation of these influences and their impact on personal growth.

Workshop Concept

Based on the concepts explored in Raymond E. Merhej's book The Climber Project, this workshop combines visual arts, technology, social sciences, and personal reflection.

Students discuss influences such as family, culture, education, environment, health, and life experiences. Through dialogue and consensus-building, each group develops a shared framework representing the "loads" carried by an individual throughout life.

Using digital tools, artificial intelligence, image generation, audio technologies, and design software, students create visual and narrative representations of these influences. They explore how personal loads can act as enhancers or obstacles and consider the inner voices that emerge from these experiences—supportive, critical, or balanced.

The workshop culminates in the creation of a Climber Board, a visual map illustrating the relationship between personal loads, internal dialogue, and personal growth.
